Xperience Engineering

Over the past few months boys in 3rd Class have been working hard on their project for the Xperience Engineering competition 2012.  The competition aims to encourage pupils to look at engineering in the world around them and appreciate the important role that engineers play in people's lives.  This year's theme being 'Technology for Life' the boys decided that the focus of their project would be pacemakers.  Having learned all about the heart, carried out some experiments in school, and contacted a Cardiologist with their questions, the highlight of the project was a visit to the local Boston Scientific facility.  The boys were given a fantastic presentation, met some engineers and were taken on a tour of the manufacturing facility getting a close-up of the different processes involved in producing pacemakers.  To cap it all off, and as recognition for all their hard-work, the boys have learned that their project has been shortlisted for the National Final to be held at The Helix, DCU, Dublin during the first week of June.  Well done boys.

Tipperary crowned After School Hurling League 2012 Champions

Following a fantastic, close game in perfect conditions it was Tipperary who triumphed over Waterford by the narrowest of margins to be crowned after School hurling league Champions 2012.  Tipperary made all the early running in the first half with a goal each for Conall Kennedy and Joshua Ryan.  Niall Hoctor raised a green flag to keep Waterford in touch, the half-time score Tipperary 2-03 Waterford 1-03.  The second half proved to be a reverse of the first with waterford firing five unanswered points to set themselves up for victory.  However, right at the death a second Conall Kennedy goal snatched the win for The Premier Men on a final scoreline of Tipperary 3-03 Waterford 1-08.  Mr Ryan paid tribute to both sides for the skill and passion on display and praised the effort and quality shown by all players throughout the league.  St. Mary's stalwart Jimmy Collins echoed those sentiments before presenting the cup to Tipperary captain Joshua.

Music at St. Mary's

School Choir
Our school choir has been up and running for many years and has earned many plaudits in that time. As well as performing at school masses and sacraments our choir has participated in various school competitions, winning many awards for their excellence. On different ocassions they have performed locally giving people of the community the opportunity to witness their talents. In December 2011 the boys sang at the annual St. Mary's Parish Carol Service with Banna Chluain Meala and St. Mary's Senior Choir giving an exceptional performance under the expert guidance of Ms. Adamson and Ms Collins.

School Band
Our school band was set up in 2011 and continues to go from strength to strength under the expert guidance of teacher Ciara O'Sullivan. Ciara, herself a traditional Irish musician of considerable talent, is teaching the boys to play a wide variety of instruments including drums, violins, whistles, recorders and accordians. The boys put on an excellent performance for the whole school in December and followed that up with a wonderful performance at our Seachtain na Gaeilge Feis Mór.
