Active SCHOOLS WEEK 2019

Tuesday 7th May
What a fantastic first day! We had equipment in the yard before school, at break and lunch for all classes. Cárthach and Keenan led our Active Lines in the morning and at break. Adrian Johnson from Clonmel Handball Club came in and played handball with 2nd, 5th and 4th/5th and our Early Intervention Classes played parachute games with the older boys.6th class played invasion games while 5th had a game of soccer. 1st to 4/5th had their penalty shoot outs with Connor, Alex, Dara, Callum, Ryan and Finn as winners. 1st class enjoyed some playground games led by boys from the older classes and 3rd&4th had their Track and Field trials. All classes engaged in DEAD (Drop Everything and Dance) @12pm. We also had boys from 5th & 6th take part in Spar FAI Schools 5 a side soccer tournament!

Wednesday 8th May
A wet and rainy day didn't dampen our Active Week! Celine Kennedy kicked off things with very active aerobics classes with both staff and students working up quite a sweat! 5th and 6th had their penalty shoot outs with Payton, Tom and Philip coming out as winners. 2nd and 2nd/3rd had fun playing Pelmanism while 4th/5th class played dodgeball! 5th class enjoyed their dance break and 6th class had great fun with benchball.

Thursday 9th May
We kicked things off today with Track and Field Trials for 5th and 6th class boys. 1st Class played Invasion Games while our Early Intervention Classes played ball games with some of the older boys. Shane O'Neill, Andy Griffin, Kyle Peters and Emmet Leahy played hurling with 3rd, 4th and 5th class students on behalf of St. Mary's Hurling Club. All staff, students and some parents/guardians headed off for a lovely walk along the River Suir. After lunch there was great atmosphere for Penalties Against the Principal. Mr.Morrissey managed to save all the penalties (including Ms.Traas') except for Finn's which managed to slip past him! 4th/5th played a game of Rugby Tennis and Mr.Leahy & Mr.Peters ran a Puc Fada competition at lunch. We finished off the day with a slam dunk as our 6th Class boys took on the teachers in a game of basketball!

Friday 10th May
We kicked off the day with some skipping, unihoc and badminton before school.  Tony Scully  played soccer with 1st, 4th and 5th on behalf of Clonmel Town while Aoife from AOK Dance took the Early Intervention classes for dancing. 6th Class played kickball and Séamus Kennedy chatted with the boys about nutrition, lifestyle and playing hurling for Tipperary. We had great fun with some Students vs Teachers matches. 1st & 2nd took on the staff with a game of soccer, 3rd & 4th pulled their weight in Tug'o'War and tension flew as 5th challenged the teachers to a game of Dodgeball! 2nd and 2nd/3rd enjoyed playground games led by the older students while 3rd class played benchball. Our 4th/5th played a game of soccer and 6th class rounded off the week with Rugby Tennis.

Our Active School Committee are currently busy planning and organising our first Active Schools Week. It will take place May 7th - 10th and promises to be a great week - full of fun!
